It’s that time of the year again to celebrate the best of the best movies (The Academy Awards) and chastising the worst of the worst (The Golden Raspberry Awards). The Oscar nominees were announced early this morning while the Razzie nominees were announced yesterday.

It’s not a surprise that Barbie has been nominated for a lot including Best Picture, Costume Design, two original songs, Production Design and Writing. And it’s not a surprise that Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera got nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, but it IS surprising that lead Barbie, Margot Robbie, did not get a nomination.

Despite Disney’s large list of films that made it into theaters last year, only Pixar’s Elemental got nominated for Feature Film. And once again, Tom Cruise is not getting any love, but his big blockbuster of the summer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, has been nominated for Best Visual Effects and Sound.

Other surprises this year include movies that didn’t fare too well in theaters but are still being recognized for talent including Danielle Brooks for her performance in The Color Purple, the movie Napoleon for Costume Design and Production Design, John Williams for his Original Score for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and the Original Song “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot.

Meanwhile, The 44th Golden Raspberry Awards feature a number of former Oscar winners (Jon Voight, Michael Douglas, Russell Crowe and even Helen Mirren) and a few repeat offenders (Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox, Russell Crowe and Jennifer Lopez). The film with the most to lose this year is Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey with five nominations followed by Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, each with four nominations.

The 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 10. The 44th Golden Raspberry Awards will be given out on “Oscars Eve”, March 9.
