Inspirational and faith-based movies have not only gotten better in recent years, but they are also becoming quite popular as well. Earlier this year Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company released Jesus Revolution which starred Kelsey Grammer and Jonathan Roumie. This October, Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson share the screen for the filmmakers’ next project, Ordinary Angels.

Based on a true story, Ordinary Angels centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.

“I was drawn to this beautiful true story because it’s such a powerful reminder that angels reside everywhere among us,” Swank said during the filming of the movie. “And that faith, hope, grit and positivity are all powerful fuel for miracles. It’s also a story about the power of organ donation – something incredibly near and dear to my heart. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this story and message.”

Alan Ritchson also explained why he was drawn to Ordinary Angels: “I’m an optimist. I believe the best in people. I believe that sometimes we just need to be reminded of the power of what we can do together.”

Despite the story’s heavy subject matter, the trailer shows that the movie will have some lighter moments as well. In one scene, Sharon is shown giving Ed an envelope of cash and his mother invites her in the house. Pulling his mother asides Ed says, “Mom, what are you doing? I’ve met this woman. She’s a mess” to which she replies, “Perfect. She’ll fit right in.”

Directed by Jon Gunn, Ordinary Angels also stars Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Drew Powell, Amy Acker, Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchell. The screenplay was written by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig. The movie opens in theaters on February 23, 2024.
