Many centuries have gone by, and it is safe to say, game playing with friends never really goes out of style. Games can be a source of enjoyment for couples meeting up with friends, but every group likes something different. Some prefer to play a nice, quiet game of cards while others like getting loud with party games. From young couples to older adults, games can mask the awkwardness of small talk and keep everyone engaged.
What are the games that people play these days? Solitaire Bliss, a website that offers over 40 different game variants of the game, surveyed Americans from coast to coast to find out about their gaming habits. These questions included what types of games the respondents liked playing and which games they felt were the most competitive. Here is what the survey found:

Not surprisingly, younger generations tend to be more competitive during couples’ game nights than older generations. Nearly one in four of them keep records of which couple has won the most at their game nights and one in five think others unfamiliar with their friends would find their game nights a bit too competitive. And speaking of being competitive, nearly 25% of the people surveyed felt that their partners tend to get too competitive during game nights, but rarely does that stop them from playing.
The most surprising fact from this study is the types of games people ranked as “most competitive”. It would be easy to assume that physical teamwork games would make the top of the list, but to these folks, it was the games that are played around the table to bestows this honor.
In 2024, the top game that couples enjoyed playing the most with friends was Uno followed by Cards Against Humanity. But here’s the kicker: the OG of games, Monopoly is still very popular coming in third place for one in two Americans. Other classic table games that made the list include Scrabble (#7), Poker (#8), Clue (#9), Trivial Pursuit (#10), Yahtzee (#23), and Scattergories (#28).
(Competitive) Games People Play
Solitaire Bliss found Americans get most competitive while playing board games over video games which ranked second. Coming in third were card games followed by drinking games and party word-guessing games.
At parties, beer pong and flip cup still prove to be popular, but also on the list are games like Jenga, Charades, Never Have I Ever, Truth or Dare, Two Truths and a Lie and even Twister.

In backyards everywhere, Cornhole is relatively high on the list (#11) while Bocche Ball ranks near the bottom (#33). Croquet didn’t even make the list.
When it comes to video games, friends continue to enjoy party games like Mario Kart, Mario Party and Jackbox Party Pack.
