From Let’s Make a Deal to the mini golf competition show Holey Moley, TV has presented a variety of odd, wacky game shows over the years. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. How about a game show based on Chuck E. Cheese? In a new press release, it has been announced that the pizza loving mouse is developing a new physical competition game show. But this show is not intended for kids. It’s for their parents who grew up on the brand.
A production company known as Magical Elves is partnering with CEC Entertainment on the new game show and they just might make for a good fit. Magical Elves are responsible for non-fiction content on TV like Top Chef, National Geographic’s Brain Games, the goofy but likeable Nailed It! and even Snoop & Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween.
In a nutshell, the new untitled game show will be built on a larger-than-life set. It is said that teams of two “big kids” will compete using supersized arcade games. These might include pinball, air hockey, alley roller and the human claw. Like the real games these represent, these large redemption games will dispense the coveted tickets. The winning team of two, who have won the most tickets during the show, will then be given a chance to exchange those tickets for random prizes found on another massive centerpiece – the prize wall.
“With a legacy spanning over four decades, Chuck E. Cheese has been an integral part of the family experience for both kids and adults across the world,” said Melissa McLeanas, VP of Global Licensing, Media, and Branded Entertainment Development of Chuck E. Cheese. “We are thrilled to be working with Magical Elves, whose deep expertise in unscripted content make them the perfect partner to capture the wholesome competitive spirit tied to childhood memories and transform the Chuck E. Cheese experience for television.”
“Chuck E. Cheese is THE place where a kid can be a kid – but as grown adults, we still have dreams of ruling the arcade, taking on the iconic games we love!” says Magical Elves co-CEOs Jo Sharon and Casey Kriley. “We’re excited to celebrate these legendary arcade games plus the best of today, all with a super-sized twist.”
But don’t get too excited just yet. Nothing has been finalized. It is works, it could be a huge boost for the pizza place by keeping the brand front and center in family’s minds. If not, well, that could still work in their favor too. You just never know, do you?
