If you’ve been thinking that the more recent installments into the Batman universe like Gotham Knights, Pennyworth and even the Justice League movie have been a little too “adult” in nature, Warner Bros. Animation offers something new and in a completely different direction. Holy childcare Batman!

Merry Little Batman is a new, irreverent, holiday feature with an animation style all its own. This isn’t a tale of a young Bruce Wayne. Instead, it’s a story set many years later about Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne. (Yes, the character is part of the Batman storyline, but it gets complicated, so just go with it.) According to Prime Video, which will be streaming the special beginning on December 8, 2023, “Merry Little Batman is an animated family action comedy destined to join the rogue’s gallery of classic holiday movies.” At least it’s not another version of A Christmas Carol.

With a few nods to Home Alone, the trailer for Merry Little Batman looks hilarious. The story goes like this: When young Damian Wayne finds himself alone in Wayne Manor on Christmas Eve, he must transform into “Little Batman” in order to defend his home and Gotham City from the crooks and supervillains intent on destroying the holidays. With a screenplay by Morgan Evans (known for his work on the super popular Teen Titans Go! series) and Jase Ricci (Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham), this animated movie is directed by Mike Roth and features the voices of Yonas Kibreab, Luke Wilson, James Cromwell, and David Hornsby.
