While Disney is promoting its next animation release, Disney’s Hexed, I’m more excited to see Disney/Pixar’s Gatto coming to theater next spring. Also, this week – the Jonas Brothers star in Camp Rock 3 coming to Disney Channel and Disney+ this week. Check out the trailers below!

FIRST LOOK:
Gatto
While the Mouse House has begun its push for the animated Disney’s Hexed, I’m looking more forward to Pixar’s next original movie, Gatto, which won’t arrive in theaters until next March. While both movies are not sequels and are fully original tales, Gatto seems unique and different while Disney’s Hexed (“Disney’s Hexed” is the full title of this movie) appears to be more of the same – a young girl who feels different and doesn’t fit in.
(The latter film doesn’t appeal to me for more reasons, but I haven’t seen it and speculating about what that movie might contain would be opening up a can of worms.)
Pixar appears to be going back to their creative roots with Gatto. As they have done before with stories about toys, bugs and cars, Gatto is story about cats. Set in the city of Venice, Italy, Nero (voiced by Mark Ruffalo) is a black cat indebted to the ruthless feline mob boss, Nero (Laurene Fishburne, naturally).
According to a press release, Nero’s life is changed after meeting Maya, a human street artist. When she adopts him against his will, Nero begins to question his life choices. It’s an unexpected friendship that just might lead him to find a greater purpose for his life. Deep stuff.
Gatto is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the filmmaking team behind 2024’s Oscar®-nominated feature Luca. Casarosa, who also directed 2011’s short, Luna (and previously worked Cars and Ratatouille), voices a character in Gatto described as a “slapstick pigeon”.
Warren has worked on many of Pixar’s movies from A Bug’s Life to Luca in a variety of roles. This appears to be her first foray into serving as a director. It’s probably about time.
What I love about Gatto is that it has an old-school look to it. It was made with a new filming technique that blends the look of 2D hand-painted animation with computer animation. (This same technique has been used for the upcoming short film, Lilo & Scratch which will be shown along with Disney’s Hexed.)
Gatto opens in theaters on March 5, 2027.
Go Back to ‘Camp Rock’ This Week
Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas return to play Jason, Shane and Nate Gray in the third chapter in the Camp Rock franchise. In Camp Rock 3, their band, Connect 3, loses their opening act for their upcoming reunion tour, so they return to Camp Rock to find a replacement stat.
“As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested – leading to unexpected alliances, revelations, and romances.” You know, your typical camp stuff.
The cast also includes Liamani Barton, Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts, Ava Jean, Ella Lucas, Orlando Lucas, Sherry Cola and Maria Canals-Barrera.
It’s been 18 years since the original Camp Rock film aired on the Disney Channel in 2008. It was followed by Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. It joins Disney’s long history of teen musicals including High School Musical, Descendants and Zombies. Camp Rock 3 debuts on Disney Channel on August 13 and Disney+ on August 14.

The Odyssey
The Odyssey is an action/adventure film, this is true, but it is also emotional theater. There is a feeling of dread from the first moment the movie begins. The dread doesn’t let up until just before the credits roll. It is as enjoyable as it is sobering.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the best of all the movies that came before it. It still has plenty of action (the scenes that feature “The Hand” are especially cool), but it doesn’t dominate the story or go into eyeroll territory during the climax that so many other superhero movies do.
The Sheep Detectives
This is an adult story that children are welcomed to join in. Much like a classic animated Disney tale, The Sheep Detectives is truly a story that all ages will enjoy.
Supergirl
Parents wanting to take their little girls to see Supergirl to enjoy some “girl power” should think again. Maybe the next one, but in this PG-13 film, Kara is hardly a role model. Not only that, but Supergirl is quite violent and intense.
