May the 4th: The Mandalorian and Grogu Special Look Event Coming to Theaters Worldwide
Made plans for May the 4th, the unofficial Star Wars holiday? If not, this little bit of news might interest you. Lucasfilm is hosting “special look” events at select IMAX theaters around the world for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. Each event will showcase more than 25 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage, special fan giveaways, and other surprises. Those who attend these events will receive a limited-edition mini poster too. Go here for ticket information in the U.S. and a list of IMAX theaters in the U.S.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
Based on the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian and Grogu movie opens exclusively in theaters May 22, 2026. Advance tickets for the all-new Star Wars film directed by Jon Favreau, starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White, are currently available for purchase at Fandango or wherever tickets are sold.
The soundtrack for the Star Wars movie will be available on Walt Disney Records across all digital platforms May 15. If you prefer vinyl records, the 12-inch vinyl album, featuring 13 score cues, is set for release on June 5, but it is available for pre-order now. Need something a bit more special? A special limited edition Mandalorian helmet-shaped 10” die-cut vinyl, will be out May 22, 2026, the same day as the movie’s premier. It too is available for pre-order.
Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick Coming Back to Theaters for 40th Anniversary
Not to make you feel old, but it has been 40 years since Top Gun opened in theaters. If you still have the “need for speed”, you can catch it again (and 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which I thought was superior) at your local theater for one week only beginning May 13.
For the first time ever, Top Gun will be presented in cutting-edge immersive formats, delivering a fully upgraded, high-octane experience for a new generation of moviegoers and longtime fans alike. Tickets for both films are on sale now.
Top Gun Day is May 13. Those who see the movies on that day will receive a limited-edition collectible print at participating theaters while supplies last.

What Happens at Night

Apple Original Films has announced that production of Martin Scorsese’s next feature, What Happens at Night, is underway. Filming has begun in Czech Republic, with support from Czech Film Commission. Hailing from Apple Studios, and made in partnership with STUDIOCANAL, the dream-like story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby.
Based on the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Clarkson, Mads Mikkelsen, Jared Harris and Welker White.
The movie marks the latest collaboration for Scorsese, DiCaprio and Apple Original Films following Killers of the Flower Moon.
