A number of movies coming to movie houses in the coming weeks deal with singular people just trying to get through life. These include a superhero, a pop star, a monster and an orangutan. Plus, last week’s top ten movies and where you stream movies right now.

COMING ATTRACTIONS
Supergirl
Opens in theaters on June 26, 2026
I really liked last summer’s reboot of Superman, and I can’t wait to see him again (and Crypto too!), but I’m not so sure about this summer’s Supergirl. The first trailer for movie went to great lengths to show how different this movie would be, and I think that’s a bad idea. Their first approach tried to show that Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) is a lot edgier than her cousin, Kal-El. However, in the most recent trailer for the movie, it appears that Warner Bros. has been trying to make the tomboy appear a little softer with lots of footage that includes Crypto. (It also looks like it will match the tone of the first movie as well.)
According to DC Studios and Warner Bros., “Supergirl joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home”, and it seems that Kara will be keeping a good chunk of her adventures in outer space rather than on Earth.
Supergirl also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.
Mother Mary
Opens in theaters on April 17, 2026
Not much information has been given about the movie Mother Mary and the trailer is pretty cryptic as well. What we do know is that Anne Hathaway plays the flashy pop music star known as Mother Mary. However, “long-buried wounds rise to the surface…when she reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.”
I like Hathaway and she does have a nice singing voice, but I’m looking more forward to The Devil Wears Prada 2 which comes out on May 1, just two weeks later.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy
In theaters April 17
Don’t be fooled by the title, this movie is not a remake of any of Universal’s monster movies. In fact, it’s being produced by New Line Cinema.
Lee Cronin, (the movie’s director, writer and producer) says that he wanted The Mummy to tell a story about a buried secret. “There are connections that go back thousands and thousands of years, but the key story is about someone who goes missing and gets returned, not necessarily sooner than expected, but sooner than an entire lifetime having passed.”
Cronin also wanted to create a movie that was similar in tone to Poltergeist and Se7en. Like Se7en, The Mummy has a detective angle but the story centers around a family like in Poltergeist.
“Poltergeist was also a touchpoint for capturing the domestic relationships and also the heart that was in place between the family. I definitely wanted to mash up some really dark themes with some warmth. And I always think family is a great way into a story, especially a horror story, because it’s something that we can all identify with.”
The family that freaks out together, stays together, I guess. The Mummy is rated R and it promises to include some body horror. It could be a good movie – but I don’t do body horror.
I Swear
In theaters April 17, 2026
Winner of three Bafta Awards (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), I Swear is based on the life story of John Davidson, MBE, a Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner. The story is set during the 1980s following him throughout his teens and the struggles that he faced along the way.
Most people didn’t know much about Tourette’s Syndrome then (I doubt that we know a lot more now), and this film explores this misunderstood condition, along with John’s attempts to live a ‘normal’ life against the odds.
Robert Aramayo won awards for Best Actor and EE Rising Star for his portrayal of John Davidson.
Disneynature’s Orangutan
On Disney+ April 22, 2026
As is the tradition with most if not all Disneynature films, Orangutan will be released on Disney+ on Earth Day. Skipping the movie houses, this documentary film takes place “high in the treetops of Southeast Asia” and centers on a “magnificent and mysterious community.”
Narrated by Josh Gad, this nature film will take you to meet Indah, a curious orangutan who learns how to prepare to leave home and explore the world, by herself, for the first time.
All of Disneynature’s productions have been excellent and I don’t expect Orangutan to be any less.

Streaming on Prime
Thor and The Hulk team up again (sort of) in Crime 101. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, and Halle Berry. It’s “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes (89%).
