New Series and Movies Coming to Disney+


This past weekend at the 2022 D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, Disney announced to their fan base a number of new projects in the works including TV, Disney+, animation and the Disney parks. Here is what you can expect to find on Disney+ throughout the coming months:

New Series

Cars on the Road

Pixar Animation Studios returns to the world of Cars with the all-new original series Cars on the Road. Episodes follow Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister. Along the way, every stop is its own adventure, with outrageous roadside attractions and colorful new characters.

All episodes of Cars on the Road have already begun streaming.


Andor

Created by Tony Gilroy, this new Star Wars-themed series is a prequel to the movie Rogue One featuring former their and now Rebel spy Cassian Andor. Starring Diego Luna, the Andor series will explore a new perspective from the hero’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Andor begins streaming on September 21, 2022.


National Treasure: Edge of History

Based on the Nicolas Cage movie franchise, National Treasure: Edge of History is told from the point of view of a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family — who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

Jerry Bruckheimer serves as on the executive producer of the series that was written by Rick Muirragui and Mira Nair serves as the director. The series begins streaming on December 14, 2022.


The Santa Clauses

In this limited series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and has begun realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s suddenly starting to lose his Santa magic, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the North Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

Tim Allen not only stars in the series but also serves as an executive producer alongside Jack Burditt and others. The series begins streaming on November 16, 2022.

Returning Series

Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars is coming back but on Disney+ instead of ABC where the previous 30 seasons were presented. The show is hosted by Tyra Banks alongside her new co-host, Alfonso Ribeiro. Many of the usual DWTS professional dancers are back and all four ballroom judges (Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough) are back as well. Here is who will be dancing with whom:

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name last year, our squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole. It’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey — without school to get in the way. As our Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the question: Can you win summer?

New episodes begin streaming on September 28, 2022.


Big Shot

Marvyn’s latest plan toward relevance is to get his team broadcast on ESPN and his method is to recruit an unlikely player: Ava, a gutsy beach volleyball phenom whose public tantrum got her ousted from her own sport. Between losing their assistant coach Holly Barrett to a rival school, new friction amongst teammates, a sudden and unexpected proximity to boys, and off-the-court disasters that no one could’ve predicted, this season, the Westbrook Sirens have even more to prove.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

This season, Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance, the four gifted orphans who were recruited by the eccentric Mr. Benedict, embark on another mission to save the world from the nefarious plans of his twin brother Dr. L.D. Curtain. When the kids discover that Mr. Benedict and Number Two have been kidnapped, they must piece together the riddles and clues within a perilous scavenger hunt set by Mr. Benedict to foil Curtain’s latest scheme. Relying on only their wits, intellect, and empathy, the charming group of misfits embark on a globe-trotting adventure by air, land, sea and pie truck, calling upon their special skills to solve the mysteries and rescue their lost comrades. Along the way, the kids experience the growing pains that come along with being part of their new “found family,” while remaining true to their unique selves. In the process, they discover what true happiness really means.

Movies

Mija

This documentary’s features Doris Muñoz and Jacks Haupt, two daughters of immigrants from Mexico who are both navigating their careers in the music industry. Seeking to provide for their families while achieving their dreams, Doris and Jacks bond over the ever-present guilt of being the first American-born members of their families and the financial risks of pursuing their dreams. For them, the pressure of success is heightened because it is their family’s hope for green cards and family reunification.

Mija is a moving love letter to immigrants and their children. Director Isabel Castro’s intimate debut feature constructs an ethereal vision and dedication to the daughters that fight for their families, their dreams and themselves. It begins streaming on September 16, 2022.


Hocus Pocus 2

The live-action comedy Hocus Pocus 2 is a haunting sequel to the Halloween classic which brings back the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters for more comedic mayhem. The movie stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy and is directed by Anne Fletcher.

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.

The movie will begin streaming on September 30, 2022.


Mickey: The Story of a Mouse

One of the world’s most beloved icons, Mickey Mouse is recognized as a symbol of joy and childhood innocence in virtually every corner of the globe. Dreamed up at a low point in Walt Disney’s burgeoning career, Mickey became an overnight sensation when he starred in the first sync-sound animated short, Steamboat Willie. Through the decades that followed, the character evolved into strikingly different versions of himself that reflect both his creator’s remarkable career and dramatic societal shifts in the nation he came to represent.

The documentary begins streaming on November 18, 2022.


Disenchanted

Finally a follow-up! It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.

Disenchanted is directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay by Brigitte Hales features new songs with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. (His work on the previous film led to three Academy Award® nominations.) The score is also written by Alan Menken.

The movie begins streaming November 24, 2022.
