Posted this week by Disney Parks, actor Josh Gad was given the honor to serve as a guest conductor for the Disneyland Railroad under the watchful eye of a real one. Park guests were probably a bit annoyed for the delay at Main Street Station until the voice of Olaf the snowman in the Frozen movies jumped on. During the tour, Gad took his role seriously pointing out the sights of the park along the way. At one point he asked if he could just call out, “Some Aboard!” instead of “All Aboard!” What a fun trip.

This isn’t the first time that Gad had donned a Disney Park’s uniform and hijacked a ride. In February of 2023, Gad became an unofficial Jungle Cruise Skipper at the same park. Although Gad is pretty funny on his own, he was given official tour guide notes for his first (and possibly last) tour. He did embellish just a bit and the results are pretty entertaining.

Although Disney is taking suggestions for other rides that Gad can assist on, he isn’t the only celebrity to rock a Disney cast member name tag. While still talking about the Jungle Cruise, in July of 2021, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt shared duties as cruise skipper at the world-famous ride as a way to promote the opening of their movie together…Jungle Cruise. However, they were given a bit more “help” as co-star Jack Whitehall prompted them with lines not found anywhere on any attraction script.

Over at California Adventure Park, Patrick Warburton recently recorded his own surprise video. Warburton is known for playing the Chief Flight Attendant giving out instructions to park guests (via video) boarding Soarin’ Over California. This time around, he showed up in person to do his spiel. According to Disney, the occasion was “in celebration of the upcoming Food and Wine Festival” and the limited-time return of the ride. His routine isn’t nearly as funny as the others, but it’s still fun to watch.

As a promotion for their Disney theme park movie, actors LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson and Jamie Lee Curtis welcomed the foolish mortals walking into The Haunted Mansion ride and clearly having a fun time doing so.

About four years ago, Tom Holland dressed up in his costume to promote Spider-Man: Far From Home to prank guests at California Adventure. He even did his own stunts! He also got some help from castmates, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jacob Batalon.

And then there is the pretty famous stunt that started it all back in May of 2017 when Johnny Depp not only dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow, but stood in for his animatronic counterpart on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That gimmick was not in celebration for the ride’s 50th anniversary, but also the opening of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

I’d love to see more of these surprise stunts at Disneyland. Maybe they could talk Julie Andrews into dressing up as Mary Poppins once again and ride on her horse on the King Arthur Carrousel or maybe Mark Hamill could direct traffic into Star Tours or Harrison Ford at the Indiana Jones Adventure. Just a thought.
