Bazooka Celebrates 75 Years of Dads’ Jokes


Bazooka gum has been around for a long time, 75 years in fact. Know who else has been around a long time? Your dad! And so, in celebration of Bazooka’s 75th, the company is giving Dad Joke enthusiasts everywhere a chance to win a personalized celebrity shout-out for their dad and a lovely assortment of Bazooka Bubble Gum which will keep you chewing for days.

The bubble gum company shares its origin story with the American Leaf Tobacco Co. which was founded in 1890. During World War I, the company was cut off from Turkish supplies of tobacco and was hurt further after the Great Depression hit. In 1953, the company re-branded itself as Topps which was to produce chewing gum. Its earliest success came from the Bazooka Bubble Gum line which was unique because it came with a small “Bazooka Joe” comic strip printed on the wrapper. Not bad for a penny. In 2007, The Bazooka Companies was acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners, a private equity group, and Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney. Today, the company also produces the Ring Pop, Push Pop, Baby Bottle Pop, Juicy Drop and other candy.

Having been distributed all over the world, Bazooka Bubble Gum is known for its wholesome, exaggerated punchlines in the classic spirit of the “Dad Joke,” but in 2012, the company decided that it would no longer include the comics choosing to include brain-teasing puzzle wrappers instead. Then, in 2019, the company announced that gum would receive a “throwback pack” which welcomed back Bazooka Joe and friends.

Launching today on Facebook and Instagram the contest will continue through Father’s Day. From June 1 to June 8, eligible fans will also have the opportunity to enter in a sweepstakes for a chance to win an assortment of Bazooka Bubble Gum and a personalized celebrity shout-out for their dad on Father’s Day. To enter, fans are encouraged to follow Bazooka on Instagram and follow the instructions in the sweepstakes post.

Springboarding off the successful Bazooka Dad Joke campaign in 2021, Bazooka has enlisted four new celebrities who share a common love of dad jokes. These celebrities will offer their support of Dad Jokes through videos appearing in Bazooka posts on Bazooka’s Instagram and Facebook accounts.
