“From the twisted mind of executive producer Ryan Reynolds” the ABC says about its new wacky game show, Don’t, which I guess makes sense given Reynold’s unpredictable sense of humor. But perhaps the oddest thing about this whole project is the fact that Reynolds is not producing game shows. You’ve got to hand it to him though, from becoming the foul-mouthed superhero Deadpool to voicing the Pokemon Pikachu, the man doesn’t like to stay idle.
Don’t is being described as a “comedic physical game show where doing nothing is what it takes to win (finally!).” Of course, that is like saying Jeopardy! gives the answers seeking the questions. In the end, it’s all the same.
“I’m excited for people to see ‘Don’t’ and feel we made the right call in changing what was the working title: ‘Please Do Not,’” says the show’s host, Adam Scott.
Groups of four family members or friends are given a chance to win a large cash prize worth up to $100,000 by “not” doing simple, specific tasks such as “Don’t Blink,” “Don’t Look Back” and “Don’t Play Ball in the House.”Unfortunately, what these people have to do to avoid those tasks, will take a lot of work. Along the way, they’ll have the choice to take risks by pushing the Don’t Push Button or taking a chance on a Don’t You Dare, You. In the end, whatever money they have left in their bank – if anything – is theirs to keep.
The show looks similar to Ellen’s Game of Games on rival network NBC, but without all of the mayhem from the audience. To get a better idea of what you can expect, watch this:
Don’t premieres on Thursday, June 11 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
