2009: Easy-Bake Oven MasterChef
Chef Catherine Ralston, a 12-year-old received the title of “Baker of the Year” on this day in 2009. She competed against six other finalists and all had to create something yummy using an Easy-Bake Oven. Ralston’s Queen of Hearts Strawberry Tart was a huge hit. Created by Kenner (now Hasbro) in 1963, the Easy-Bake Oven, a toy oven that really bakes (using a lightbulb) originally debuted in turquoise. It has been recorded that over 500,000 units of the appliance were sold during its first year. (Image: Wikimedia)
