You might not be familiar with it, but George Herriman’s Krazy Cat comic strip was pretty popular. It was sort of a Tom and Jerry cartoon told in reverse where the cat liked the mouse but not the other way around.
1944 – Last Krazy Kat Comic Appears in Newspapers

Though far from the fame of Peanuts, Archie or even Garfield, Krazy Kat was a popular comic strip in its’ own right. However, many people are unaware that the strip ever existed. Created by George Herriman in 1913, Krazy Kat was a spin-off of Herriman’s earlier comic, The Dingbat Family.
Unlike Tom and Jerry, Krazy Kat not only liked Ignatz Mouse, but they also really wanted to be friends. Ignatz did not return the favor. Instead, the little guy responded to the nice behavior by throwing bricks to the cat’s head! To make matters worse, Krazy thought these gestures were a sign of affection. Here’s another oddity – Herriman never identified the feline as male or female, (Krazy was referred to as both “he” and “she”).
The humor in this comic strip was pretty simple stuff and yet Krazy Kat was hailed by many as an example of “serious” art. The comic printed its last strip on this day in 1944 – two months after Herriman had passed away.
2004 – Movie Ruled Mediocre by Some Makes People Cry

“Behind every great love is a great story” stated the movie posters, but movie critics weren’t so sure that The Notebook was it.
Based on Nicolas Spark’s 1996 novel of the same name, the story begins at a modern nursing home where a man reads a love story from long ago from … a notebook … to a female resident. As is typical of Sparks’ works, it was a tearjerker.
The movie starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as Noah and Allie, the characters in the old man’s notebook story. The movie also starred James Garner, Gena Rowlands, Sam Shepard, Joan Allen and James Marsden.
While the movie didn’t impress every movie critic, it was a hit in theaters making over $118 million in ticket sales off of a $29 million budget. The movie also impressed teenagers. So much so, it was nominated for eight Teen Choice Awards and won them all.
Happy Leon Day

According to National Calendar Day, today is known and Leon Day. Since today marks the six-month mark from Christmas Day, it is the unofficial start date for crafters wanting to make art in time for the winter holidays. “Leon” is “Noel” spelled backwards.
