Charlie Brown and Friends Back on TV!

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

It’s been a few rough weeks when Apple TV+ announced that they had become the exclusive home to all of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts specials including It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas. However, there is finally a bright spot in 2020. We won!

Get out the popcorn, jello, jelly beans, pretzels and toast because after nearly 262,500 signatures had been collected for a petition posted on Change.org, it has been reported that Apple has had a change of heart (or perhaps just gave in to the pressure). Earlier today it was announced that the streaming service made a deal with PBS to run the latter two specials in addition to their airings on the Apple app.

“Last month, Apple TV+ became the new home to the beloved Peanuts holiday specials. That sparked an outcry from viewers who were accustomed to annually tuning in on network TV,” says The Associated Press. “Apple offered each special to stream for free for a handful of days, but that didn’t stop online petitions from gathering hundreds of thousands of signatures.”

And so, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will air on PBS on Sunday, November 22 and A Charlie Brown Christmas will air on Sunday, December 13th. (Check you local station for times). In addition, both specials will also be available for free during three-day windows on Apple TV+ on November 25-27 and December 11-13. If you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, you can begin watching the specials starting today and December 4. But then again, if you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, you probably are not reading this.

It is unclear if the specials will continue to air on PBS for the future, but right now, we’ll take what we can get.
