Judy Sheindlin’s original syndicated show, Judge Judy ran for 25 seasons. You may be watching episodes of her old show and not even know it. If you’ve been missing her, you’ll be happy to know that on November 1, 2021, her new show, Judy Justice began airing on Amazon’s free streaming service, Freevee and new episodes for Season 3 begin airing later this month.

While the name is different, the show is very similar to the Judge Judy you know and love. She’s still cranky as ever, but she has more help these days. The “queen of the courtroom” shares space with:

Sarah Rose, Whitney Kumar, Judy Sheindlin and Kevin Rasco. (Amazon Freevee)
  • Granddaughter, Sarah Rose, who for the first two season was a law student (and former Hot Bench production assistant) but is now a brand-new lawyer serving as a law clerk.
  • Whitney Kumar, who is a board-certified court reporter in California who serves as the court stenographer.
  • Kevin Rasco, a retired Los Angeles probation officer serving as the court’s bailiff.

You won’t see “Bailiff Byrd”, who served as Judy’s bailiff on Judge Judy, but you will find him on another court show on Freevee. Byrd is now shown on Sheindlin’s Tribunal Justice who so happens to star her son and Sarah Rose’s father, former district attorney, Adam Levy.

Most episodes of Judy Justice feature only one court case and few feature two cases and they are not rushed as they were in the old format. The time devoted to commercials is less too. You’ll be in and out in less than 25 minutes.

To me, Sheindlin seems a little more compassionate on the new show even offering tissues to some of the participants from time to time. However, I will say, hearing her say the phrase “Just a second” repeatedly gets a little old.

When Judge Sheindlin was a family court Judge in New York, she earned a reputation as an extremely effective judge that garnered national attention and was the subject of a Los Angeles Times article in February 1993. That story caught the attention of 60 Minutes, which led to a segment on the iconic newsmagazine. After her appearance, she was approached about the possibility of presiding over cases on a television program.

  • 1996: In September, the Judge Judy show began airing.
  • 1999: Judy competed against her husband, Judge Jerry Sheindlin the then star of The People’s Court for ratings. He was that show’s judge until Judge Marilyn Milian took over in 2001.
  • 2013: Judy became the highest-paid TV star.
  • 2015: Judy became the longest-serving judge on TV.
  • 2019: Judy was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the 46th Annual Daytime Emmys. The Judge Judy show also won Emmy’s for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program in 2013, 2016 and 2017)
  • 2021: The Judge Judy show ended its in July.
  • 2022: I has been revealed that more people tuned in to watch repeats of Judge Judy than Judy Justice. However, the latter show wound up with record for most streaming hours viewed on Freevee. Sheindlin also won another Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program.

The third season of Judy Justice begins streaming on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video on January 22 with new episodes added each weekday through April 5. A second installment of show will resume later in the year. In addition, all 255 episodes of the first two seasons can be found on the streaming homes as well as well as the FAST channels for Judy Justice, Amazon Originals and Judge & Jury.
