The original Brady Bunch series ran for five seasons from 1969 to 1974 and despite the fact that it never became one of the top 30 shows during those five years, its fan base never seems to tire out. Since the show went off the air, Hollywood keeps finding ways to bring the “kids” back to the small screen.

From 1972 to 1974, ABC aired the animated series, The Brady Kids on Saturday mornings which featured the voices of the original cast. Then ABC created a series of two-hour variety specials created by Sid and Marty Krofft who are responsible for H.R. Pufnstuf and the Donnie and Marie variety show. The Brady Bunch Variety Hour aired episodes from 1976-1977.

In 1981, Sherwood Schwartz, creator of the original show, created the TV reunion movie, The Brady Girls Get Married followed by the sitcom series, The Brady Brides for NBC. This was followed by the 1988 movie for CBS, A Very Brady Christmas which in turn led to the comedy/drama series, The Bradys which aired six episodes in 1990.

Now in 2019, the gang is back once again to knock down and build up the real house that represented the fake one in HGTV’s A Very Brady Renovation. The network bought the actual house that was used for the exterior shots of the original show with plans to renovate it so that it would become a replica of the TV home we all know and love. The concept is a unique one where the cast of The Brady Bunch is paired with the stars from various HGTV series. Sort of like “Remodeling with the Stars.”

During the series, all six Brady siblings showed up for the task at hand, which is pretty difficult in itself. No longer little kids (the actors’ ages range from 58 to 64), the new series stars Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) who are teamed up with Jonathan and Drew Scott (Property Brothers: Forever Home), Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E Laine (Good Bones), siblings Leanne and Steve Ford (Restored by the Fords), Jasmine Roth (Hidden Potential) and Lara Spencer (Flea Market Flip).

A Very Brady Renovation is the programming event of the year that Brady Bunch and HGTV superfans have been waiting for,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV. “HGTV and the Brady Bunch house together is as big as we anticipated, and it’s been fun to see and hear how everyone lights up with excitement whenever we mention anything related to Brady.”

It took over 90 hours of filming the demolition and rebuilding of the Brady home which included adding 2,000 square feet making the original one-story home into a two-story one without alterating the front  of the house as seen from the street.

“HGTV left no stone unturned, creating a perfect replica of the home down to the horse statue next to the staircase and the stuffed animal giraffe in the girls’ bedroom,” added Latman. “Viewers will be on the edge of their seats each week to see how we pulled it all off, and we can promise they’ll be transported back in time when they see the final result.”

The 90-minute premiere episode of A Very Brady Renovation airs on Monday, September 9 at 9 p.m. on HGTV, but you can watch a special sneak peek of the show here. (The preview will disappear after September 9.)
